This was the port and beach that was used for a Mulberry Harbour in June 1944. My father landed here as part of the D-Day landings.

The Wreck

I first glimpsed this old wreck when I was driving over a narrow bridge. I managed to avoid an accident. For a few years I was able to visit this scene annually. However, I also witnessed the gradual destruction of the vessel. Over suceeeding winters the storms along the estuary caused the deterioration of the boat until, inevitably I suppose, its back was broken and it was never the same after that. I always reminds me of the skeleton of a prehistoric animal.
